About the club
Tyne United Rowing Club was founded on the 26th April 2007 in order to promote competitive and recreational rowing at all levels, and ages on the River Tyne. We are based on a 3 acre site on the South Bank of the river at Newburn with 250m of river frontage. Our facility includes three boat storage sheds, a new boathouse and a fitness shed including 16 Concept2 Model D ergos, Olympic weights set-up and a brand new indoor rowing tank.
The two sheds to the right are long enough to house 2 eight length and below you can see a snapshot of some of our current fleet of boats within one of the sheds.

History
Tyne United was originally founded after the Second World War by the merger of several professional clubs in Gateshead. These clubs were Empire RC, Hawthorn RC, Gateshead and District RC, Walker RC, and Wallsend RC. Professional rowing ceased in the 1960s. For those interested we have a number of interesting documents in our ‘History Archive‘.
