Wansbeck LDS / SBH

The LDS saw entries from Duncan and Allen in their singles. After some tricky marshalling both made it safely down the course and were happy with their rows. The SBH saw Rachel and Sophie race the masters women’s double sculls C-E category. They had a solid row and were pleased with their performance, but sadly no win for them today. Allen again rowed his single. Well done to all who rowed.

Berwick LDS

A cold sunny day, greeted the turc crews at Berwick. After some discussion about the best line and how the bridge looked pretty solid they headed on to the water, for the paddle up to the start. Some really good rowing by the three crews that entered saw the masters men’s quad of David L, David T, Jono and Aidan come second in the masters e race. Duncan won the masters G single scull. Rachel and Sophie won the masters women’s c-e double race. Well done to all that competed!

Explore Round 3

The third round of the Explore League was held at Berwick today. Our ladies crew put up a great fighting performanc, showing a determination and passion as they won two and lost two races. The senior ladies gave the young ladies a run for their money! The Bewick hospitality was exceptional. The crew drove home happy, more confident and looking forward to more training for Tynemouth.

Strathclyde Park Regatta

A big turn out of women saw us enter multiple events over the two day regatta. Races for masters were over 1000m and senior races 2000m. For some it was their first experience of a regatta and all the details that entailed. For others it was a chance to see where they were at in their early season preparations. Well done to all who took part whether you medalled or not.

Vesta Head of the River

The end the winter head season culminated in the Vesta Head of the River race on the River Thames. Run on the Championship course from Mortlake to Putney, it was a special way to end our season. The club sent a women’s masters D eight and a women’s masters B quad to the event. The ladies gathered on the Saturday in glorious Spring sunshine, to rigg boats and have a paddle to familiarise ourselves with the water. Sunday dawned overcast and windy - not the conditions we had hoped for. After nervous pre-race instructions we all boated. Both crews found the conditions tricky, but learnt a lot from taking part. It was a fabulous atmosphere and lovely to hear the Northern crews supporting each other, as they marshalled. A fabulous way to end our season.

Trent Head

Worth the wait

A misty start saw a delay to the start of proceedings on the Trent.

When it finally got underway, the sun shone and it was a bright, warm day. In division 1 the women’s 8 competed against some strong opposition in the D category. They rowed strongly and were pleased with a solid performance. In division 2 our women‘s beginners coxed four had their first experience of an away race. They finished with smiles on their faces and a much better understanding of what racing is all about. Division 3 saw a women’s B quad and a women’s E quad take to the water. Good racing by both crews, saw the B quad win their category.

Well done to all who took part. It was wonderful to see so many women from Tyne United racing and supporting each other.

Tyne Head

A sunny, but breezy day greeted Tyne Head. Our expanding squad sent out a masters B double and a masters D 8 for the morning division and a status 8 for the afternoon division. Conditions weren’t kind and unfortunately we all struggled with the wind. Onwards and upwards to Trent Head next weekend.
