Pairs Head 2018

It was with great excitement Kat and Sophie arrived in London to be the clubs first participants at Pairs Head. The temperature was a barmy 18 at 10pm on the Friday night! However things started to go wrong when the host club issued a weather warning and a course inspection notice on Saturday morning. Eventually at 1pm on Saturday in torrential rain and a gusty windy they declared the race on. It was a magnificent sight and very exciting to see so many boats on the mighty Thames. After A soggy wait on the water, we got the call to strip and turn and the race began. It was a fabulous experience, which was over in a flash. No crabs, crying or crashes occurred and we were still smiling, if a little chilly when we returned to Putney High School boathous, who had kindly hired us a boat for the day. All in all a brilliant experience.

Ouse Marathon

It was a hot sunny day for the Ouse Marathon, in Cambridge. The course was 25km of weed free river winding through the countryside from start to finish. Along the way there were lots of supporters cheering you on and shouts of encouragement from the barges meandering along the river.

Tyne United were represented by Martin in the masters men’s C single scull category and Sophie in the masters women’s B single scull event. Solid rows by both competing the course in 2 hours and 2 hours 7 minutes respectively.

Explore Series Round 6

Today was round 6 of the explore series host by Durham Amateur Rowing club. And what a fantastic day it was!! The weather was glorious and after our traditional bacon sandwiches, the racing began.

We had 3 races to complete and we won 2 of them. This means we are still top of the league table, closely followed by Tyne Arc, only 2 points behind.

The extra training that we have all put in has really paid off, and the team work on the day was fantastic!!

The day was topped off with a nice leisurely row along durham river taking in the sights and scenery courtesy of DARC and their cox.

A perfect day had by all ?

British Masters Championships

We'll be back

The Masters Women took six boats down to The National Watersports Centre, Nottingham for the British Masters Championships.

The standard was extremely high and there were great performances all round in the Championship sculling races, but sadly no medals this year.

Explore Series Round 4

They've Got Skills

The Women’s Masters had a great day at Tees for the skills and drills leg of the Explore Series.

They were able to demonstrate all the required skills and drills, although maybe not as quickly as they would have liked.

Thank you to Fiona for coxing.

However heads held high, they still lead the women’s standings.

Bring on the sweep rowing in the next round at Durham on 24 June.

Well done ladies!

Hexham Regatta

Double Top

There was a good turn out of Masters Women for Hexham Regatta, grey skies and light rain didn't dampen the spirits.

Rachael competed in her single but unfortunately couldn’t overcome an eight second handicap in Division One. Moving onto Division Two a quad of Fiona. Anna, Penny and Karen came a close second to a Durham crew.

Rachael and Maryam competed well in their double.

Sarah and Rachel won their race to round off the day.

Well done all!

Thank you to Angela Harrison, Al Johnston for the photographs.

Tees Regatta 2018

The sun shone and so did the Masters Women.

In the first division we had two coxless quads in the B-D race. They finished a respectable second and fourth.

In the third division two doubles went out as part of the B-D race.  TURC took first and second place.  Congratulations to Sarah and Rachel on the win.

With thanks to Al Johnston for permission to share the pictures.

Explore Series Round 4

Talk of the Tarn

The sun shone at Talking Tarn and so did our ladies Explore Series crew.

Winning 3 of their 4 races Lindsey, Maureen, Judy, Claire and Stephanie did themselves proud and more than deserved their ice cream at the conclusion of racing.

A brilliant job!

Strathclyde Park Regatta 2018

And they are off!

Regatta season began for the Masters Women at Strathclyde Park on 28th/29th April

Rachael C, Rachel L, Sarah F, Kathryn, Sophie, Sarah C, Natalie, Angela and Claire competed in two quads, two doubles and a single across a range of categories.  The conditions were best descirbed as testing, with strong winds and lumpy water, but at least it didn't rain!  We managed to bring home a win and a second, with strong performances by all crews, particularly Rachael who had the worst of the conditions in her single.  Shopping was also successful, our kit bags replenished from the Crew Room stall.

A good weekend all round!

Explore Rowing Round Two

A splendid day!

We had our first taste of racing today, after doing a Learn to Row course last year. We were joined by Lindsey had a little more experience and Fiona (aka “The Captain”) who had more again. Fiona provided excellent encouragement and Damien was a splendid cox.

We were the only all ladies crew, so competed in the mixed crews event. No wins (yet) but we worked hard and rowed them close. We certainly benefitted from Allen’s coaching on the way to get a good start.

The sun shone, we had great fun and we are all proud of what we have achieved so quickly in our rowing careers!  Roll on the next meet when hopefully we will be able to compete against the fairer sex!
