What’s it all about?

Tyne United is 1 of 12 clubs who will be participating in The Centurion Row on 12th September 2021. The event, which is the brainchild of Andy Triggs Hodge in conjunction with London Youth Rowing, will the platform for launching Tyne United’s Beacon Project.

The Beacon Project will offer young people in the North East, who wouldn’t ordinarily be able to access our sport, the opportunity to learn to row and take advantage of the benefits that come with it including fitness, team work, communication skills, resilience and having fun.

When does it take place?

On 12th September, our Centurion Sophie will be rowing 100 km between 5am and 6pm. That’s almost the distance between Newcastle and York!! Sophie will be doing part of the rowing solo in her single scull and the rest in crew boats. She has been training tirelessly over the summer for this challenge, averaging over 120 km a week

To kick off our fundraising for the Beacon Project, we are asking friends, family, supporters, pets, the postie – anyone! – to give what they can afford in support of this potentially life changing project.

Show your support with a donation.

If you are a business, big or small, who would like to support and grow the Beacon Project over the longer term, please contact our Captain Damian Greene.
