The end the winter head season culminated in the Vesta Head of the River race on the River Thames. Run on the Championship course from Mortlake to Putney, it was a special way to end our season. The club sent a women’s masters D eight and a women’s masters B quad to the event. The ladies gathered on the Saturday in glorious Spring sunshine, to rigg boats and have a paddle to familiarise ourselves with the water. Sunday dawned overcast and windy – not the conditions we had hoped for. After nervous pre-race instructions we all boated. Both crews found the conditions tricky, but learnt a lot from taking part. It was a fabulous atmosphere and lovely to hear the Northern crews supporting each other, as they marshalled. A fabulous way to end our season.
