Winter Series arrives with a purr

As the trees begin to shed their leaves, rowers start to reach for more layers; it must be start of the winter Head season.

First up on the river Tyne, the Long Distance Sculling series and the Small Boat Head hosted and run by Tyne Amateur Rowing Club and Tyne United respectively.

Biggest news of the day was the amazing weather: remarkably mild, light breeze and an almost benign Tyne.

It made for a great day with the Women’s Squad having representatives in both the LDS and SBH.

Strong season opening performances across the board, which blew the cobwebs away and tested some of the hard yards put in since regatta season in the summer.

More personal triumphs and miles in the tank for the single scullers in the kind conditions. For the newer crews a chance to see how things were coming along, especially when a timing error had been corrected, and for the more established crews a chance to evaluate what to aim for next.
